I did tell myself that I would wait until a quiet moment to do these posts, but… well, in the midst of deciding on which test case derivation techniques I’m going to use in my Software Quality and Testing assignment I thought, well, why not!

Yes, I’m a big fat procrastinator. I think I even did a post a week last NaNo as well, but I was less busy then I seem to recall, just knackered constantly from the new job…

Well, screenie lies beyond.

Once again, I was crap and forgot about updating. Yay me. But, rather rubbishly, I also didn’t manage to do so much that the stats for my WIPs were massively different… Fail.

I did a lot of planning, at least. For Soul and Wings mostly. I also resurrected Tshaya and planned and wrote more of that.

Branka still hasn’t completed its mahoosive overhaul so there’s no word count for that currently. I need to have a rant at Ob about it, but since that hasn’t happened yet the project is essentially in stasis. I’ve had a few odd ideas and had big urges to write for it, but nothing has really happened.

Wings was a bit awkward – I loitered around one chapter for ages and then got inspiration for a later two-part and wrote bits of that instead and then bits of other chapters and then went back to the chapter I was supposed to be writing and then went back to the two-parter… And then I bitch-slapped the chapter ordering and the two-part is now closer and therefore it was less crap of me to keep going to it… I like the new ordering far better, it flows more easily and the lull isn’t over-large anymore.

I also did a good deal more random writing – idea, write stuff, toss aside, repeat – in the last month or so. Some of it will be useful – murderers! – most of it won’t.

This is just a quick update, but hopefully there will be more large numbers soon. NaNo is upon us, after all. November would be the busiest month of the year, wouldn’t it *rolls eyes*

I have three killers. They’re part of me only in that they sit at the back of my mind and chuckle and smoke and wait. Sometimes I think it’s inevitable. Sometimes I like to tease them, consider for too long, tempt them with blood. Sometimes I just say no.

Regardless of what they say or do, they are parts of me whether I like it or not. They are parts of me that should only really be themselves. And so I write for them. I speak for them. I give them words, lend them my hands, show them freedom. Because with my hands they are no longer parts of me, with my hands they are themselves and can reach out to others as they please, show and touch and speak as they please.

So for a while my hands will be Killing Hands. For them. So that they can stretch their legs and move their mouths and have others hear them. So that they don’t become restless. So that my hands can be their Killing Hands and not my own. Because while they have my Killing Hands they are not a part of me and I can write without fear. They are the hands of killers and while the blood still comes through words, everything can just be fine.

I have three killers and two Killing Hands. No hesitations. They are no longer a part of me, now my hands speak for them.

Tshaya and the four corners are dead. Forbidden Wings is very much alive.

For some reason I’ve recently been distracted from my projects by FW. Usually when I get busy and tired I fixate on something or do nothing, but I’ve never been fixated on FW like this before. It’s good, but also not good. If I stay like this for too long I’ll lose inspiration for more than just Tshaya and the four corners, the latter of which was withering to death slowly anyway.

FW is doing well. We’ve done about thirty-nine out of forty-six chapters (yes, that’s right, another has been added!). We finished one interlude and have finished the main part of the other shared one. I’m enjoying it  :D

Wish I could split my exhausted focus though…

Did a little work on most of my projects, but not a lot to any. Wings got it most, I think. I’ve also reconstructed the entirety of Branka into parts:

 Part I – Vampires

 Part II – Weres

 Part III - Demons

 Part IV – Oh My!

Yes, I know, it amused me. Aside from that, I was going to work on Ob’s seriously belated x-mas fic, but I think I’m just too tired today… I was in work far earlier than is natural and my appraisal (whoo 20% bonus!!) and the IT Department meeting kept me until almost six  D:

I think I’ll just sleep. Ja.

General:-

It’s been a while since my last post! I’ve been busy, but not too busy to post really… I kept looking at WordPress and thinking ‘I’ll do it later’ - like you do – and later has only just come XD

Still, let’s not linger on my uselessness, on to the main event!

Writing has been going well. I’ve been feeling good about myself in that respect for the past week or so, with no apparent incitement, and numerous things have happened in the month since last post.

 First, existing projects.

Wings has been going well – yes, Wings comes first! - I’ve finally managed to thicken out the second half enough to give me peace of mind for the first draft. My chapters keep mutating to many times the size I originally thought they would (the chapter I’m currently on, for instance, is already three times its original prediction and isn’t finished), but as Ob has pointed out, I love this even though I like to complain about it.

Having Ob so close to it and enthusiastic really helps me, so her love of Wings is brilliant (though I’m wriggling impatiently on my seat for her to read the chapters she has left because I want more feedback *hint* XD).

Branka hasn’t had as much love in recent times as it did around my last post, though this is only because other projects have been demanding my attention (mostly Wings, Legacy and Soul). I’m still having issues with the crappy early chapters and giving too much attention to my vampires though…

Soul  has recently snatched my attention, for which I’m glad because I’ve realised how much I love it again. I’m always amazed I forget, because it’s so different than the other pieces I write and even in writing it, I laugh to myself quite a lot  :D

I’m going to return to Soul, in fact, as soon as I’ve finished this post (I can’t be bothered to update both of my blogs, I only did this one because I rationalised when I felt I needed to make an effort and this was easier for me to do XD).

Tshaya, the four corners, Thinking and the Labyrinth fanfic have seen no action, unfortunately. I’ve decided on killing some of the parts of the four corners and Tshaya got some words (though I can’t remember when and it was only a paragraph or so), but other than that… The Labyrinth fic will happen one day… one day…

I re-discovered Ob’s Christmas fic while she was visiting last weekend and loved it all over again, so to encourage me to finish it I’ve added it to the bottom of my WIP list.

And, last but not least, my new project Legacy.

Legacy is a vampire story, but different from anything I’ve written before and intrinsically tragic. I planned out the basic plot while cooking pasta the other day, sat down and wrote 2000 words and planned out almost the entire thing in one night.

Now, I need only write the scenes I’ve got and sew the chunks of plot together. It won’t be terrifically long, at a wild guess I’m looking at 50k now, and I sort of wish it was almost NaNoWriMo, because this would be perfect to do then… But it’s sort of June… and it won’t last that long.

 Inspiration, it seems, has an expiration date ;_;

Finally, an update on Forbidden Wings! We’re doing quite well, with thirty-two out of forty-five chapters done (though at least three will be re-written) and only three and a half Interludes are left to do (two shared and one each, though mine has been written once which is why it only counts as a half).

We’re in the middle of chapter thirty-three at the moment and well into the shared Interludes. It sounds like Ob’s doing well with her Interlude as well. But my Interlude re-write is currently just over a page long… Go me.

So I think that’s it. My life in terms of writing. I’m sure there were other things to say, but that’s the main bulk told.

General:-

Things have been hectic with jet lag recovery, work being stupid and suchlike so I haven’t been all that forthcoming with wordage… Though I have another up-and-coming project with some plot (which is already in OneNote with the rest of my main projects) so there’s some hope there and I’ve killed Blue Eyes and am considering breaking the four corners into a smaller set (keeping 1,2,3,5,6, perhaps 9, and 11). I’ve also been poking at a fun ’something’ about a killer. It was just supposed to be another of those little things I write one day and then get rid of, but I sort of like it… Got less than 1000 words to it so far, but there’s something quite enjoyable about it, so I’m going to keep it around; it’s basically me being so cruel to a character, breaking them so utterly that they become a killer – the fun, intellectual, playful, entirely twisted kind that I adore so much :D

Wings, of course, got attention. I’ve been raping Obble for feedback a bit (I love you Ob, your opinion really means a lot to me!) and that’s got me nice and enthused about the project as a whole. I was having issues over the lack of ’something’ I can’t define in the second half of the story, but I have a bit of a feeling that if I just go for it I’ll find that ’something’ anyway… so that’s what I’m going to do. I have a good idea of the events and the characters, hopefully the rest will just fall into place as I go. If not… it’s only a first draft.

Branka was loved also; the story is split into three parts of twenty chapters each and I’m eerily close to having most of a first draft of the first part :O I hadn’t realised how close I was, it was a bit of shock. I have issues with Branka, however, in which I adore my vampires too much and consequently would rather write them than anything else, other chapters being noticeably neglected… I have begun remedying this, but some of the earlier chapters will have chunks missing anyway because they’re affected by later events I haven’t written yet. I’m less structured with the planning of Branka than Wings and I’m mostly just writing as it comes to me, so I don’t want to over-plan – especially with its almost-death a little while ago. I also have an upturned nose for the early chapters because they’re not very well written compared the later stuff. It’s to be expected, but it irritates me… I’ve made the conscious decision not to go back or do anything with them until I’ve finished at least this first part. If I can keep some self-control I’d prefer to wait until the end, but I don’t think I’m that strong… :S

Anyway, so things have been happening, which is nice. Since this is a three-day weekend I was hoping for writing, writing and more writing, but I’m spending a lot of time (like now) catching up on various other things. I’ve accomplished bits and pieces already with the feedback gathering, the plotting for Wings and some writing to both Wings and Branka, as well as pokeage of the new Tshaya project. I have tomorrow and tonight still. I’m sure I’ll get more done >:D

So~ I am back from my exciting trip to Mexico. Wasn’t terribly exciting, I spent far too much time with family, hardly left the hotel… but it was a good temperature. And I accomplished a surprising amount in writing terms despite obligatory laziness and necessary attending of family, especially young cousins.

I mostly worked on Wings. I got about 25,800 words done over the course of the holiday and now I’m almost half way through :O Some chapters appeared and others became superfluous, so the chapter count is only 100 now (though I have a feeling that won’t last… I have far less planning beyond the half way mark). Still, I’m fairly pleased with what I did, it’s different writing with absolutely no other considerations – the relaxation was really good for me, I think. Though I missed talking to people I enjoy (sorry Family, I love you, but really) and I’m going to be totally broken for work this week…

I also poked Branka, finishing a fun chapter that was almost done, adding to others and doing some fun planning bits and pieces. I’m back with Branka now, but Blue Eyes is, unfortunately, on its way out. I know when I get listless reading through what’s there, I’ve just lost my spark for it… It might return, so I haven’t buried it yet, but at the moment I highly doubt it.

Still a few projects in tentative states, new stuff that may or may not succeed depending on whether the inspiration remains for them by the time I next look. I miss working on FW, so I might have a look at the last of my Interludes at some point this week (if I don’t fall unconscious on immediate return home each evening out of sheer exhaustion)…

But now, Gavi-pon has arrived for the evening so I shall leave it at that. The numbers speak for themselves :D

I am joyfully returned from my holiday to Mexico. I will speak of this in the next Status post, which shouldn’t be far off. But, for now, a thought.

Am I the only one who dislikes ‘happily ever after’? Not necessarily the ‘happy’ part – lord knows we torture our characters enough for them to occasionally deserve it – but the finality of it. The end. And that’s it. Like ending a world, as well as the bit of that world’s story you’ve been sharing. I don’t like the neatly tied endings, endings cut with scissors, the ‘there’s nothing more to see here, people’ endings.

Sorry, I should probably clarify what I mean, maybe explain myself a tiny bit better.

I finished the Stephenie Meyer ‘Twilight’ series of books earlier and, despite a bit of wavering on the final volume in places, ended up enjoying it. But the last line, the one before ‘the end’ (which I dislike anyway – the end of what? Life won’t end with a ‘the end’, why should these snippets of it?), made me think about story endings. I don’t like ‘happily ever after’ because it is, fundamentally, like denying the characters further rights to live or make choices. At some point characters – and I know this isn’t just me, it’s commented on by writers way too much – gain a life of their own, you’ve lovingly created an entire world around them, nurtured, tormented, hurt and shown them love- so why qualify the rest of their lives in one piss-poor sentence?

I might be just crazy from jet lag, but for some reason thinking about this while I was cleaning the kitchen and suchlike really bugged me. I’m not saying those horrible trail-off endings are the way to go – perish the thought! – but I like endings to have some sense of continuance, some sense that the world will keep on rolling despite what has happened in the story itself. Unless it’s a story about a successful apocalypse, in which case it’s excused. Though a story about an apocalypse that finished with ‘the end’ would probably make me grind my teeth anyway…

Have I clarified? Doubtless you’re wondering why you’re still reading because I’m making about as much sense as Seiko shaving his head and becoming a Buddhist monk (yes Ob, I agree – the orange must be burned before it reaches his skin). Still, I said what I wanted to say. My endings will always conform to my ideals from now on, though undoubtedly there have been projects in the past that didn’t… I haven’t really finished many so I should be able to remember, but alas.

And they lived happily ever after. The end.

General:-

Right~ I am back again. I have not forgotten and I will not leave this blog unloved for so long again! *crosses fingers behind back and whistles innocently*

Okaaay, so I’ve been mostly concentrating on new ideas, Branka and Wings. I have brought to life and killed a good number of new ideas and other than developing a slightly older idea, I have nothing new with words written. There is one possibility, which I will try to begin once I have some more of the scope, but I won’t share here until I am at least a tiny bit convinced it will work.

Wings has been going well in the sense that the chapter that I stole purpose from now has purpose, but it’s also being a shit because it was almost-filler and now has almost 6000 words to it… and is still not done >_> Unexpected and pleasant… I suppose. Need to move on though and I’m sort of stuck trying to write an entire chapter – after so long being somewhat ‘bittie’ with my writing I got to a collection of chapters I couldn’t help but write in full… now I’m having trouble getting back to ‘bittie’. Damn it.

Branka was very nearly on its way out. I’m still having momentary doubts :O But I think it will live. I’ve had some splurges over the past week, mostly because I read the sequel to Twilight and my love of the supernatural genre returned… with some inspiration for my own brand of vampire. Or one in particular anyway. Last time it was the Kim Harrison books (the Rachel Morgan series, which is awesome). I’m happy I saved it, if only at first on the merit of one character :D

I’m busy with preparations for going to Mexico for two weeks for my Uncle’s wedding, but I have a three-day weekend this week so I’m going to try and get a good chunk of Branka and Wings done. I also have time on holiday for writing since I’m not allowed to take fifteen hulking books like I did last time (weight limit, schmeight limit!) :P

I’ll stop here. I want another early night tonight (four in a row!), so ta ta!

General:-

It’s been a while since my last post… Oops… I think my RL journal is actually even worse and hasn’t been updated since before Christmas.

‘Double Unlucky’.

Yes Ob, I’m aware only we two will understand that in the context I mean it. Oh well.

So… I’ve done a lot of idea-ing. Have done a big chunk of planning for Branka, which is positive; I have 58/60 chapters vaguely planned out (the two remaining depend on other factors) and a lot of extracts organised. I haven’t written any more of it, though I re-read some and haven’t trashed the entire project, so that’s helpful.

Did a big PHOAR of Soul in a one night or a weekend or something (I forget, was a while ago…) and finished half of two chapters and an entire chapter in between. Was impressive really. Need to go back to it, but I’ve been rather Wings-centric lately and haven’t had much time to spread myself out.

Labyrinth fanfic still hasn’t been started *shock horror* but I was listening to ‘Within You’  and got the bug for it momentarily. Damn it. Needs to be done.

Wings has been chugging along nicely, though I was caught on some slow-moving chapters for a while. A couple of new chapters might be added in places for expansion, though I’m not going to write them until it’s time to go through again, since I need to keep moving forward to avoid head explody.

the four corners has been somewhat neglected, though I managed to break through a particularly nasty bit that had me stuck for ages.

Another couple of short stories have surfaced: one nicknamed thinking (I know, I’m crap at this, but I may give it one of my orphaned titles…) that has been given the stamp of approval from Obble (which it needed because it’s written in a really weird style and I had to make sure it made sense… while not making sense… you’ll see what I mean when I eventually finish it), and another that was a joint brain-child of Ob and I when we were complaining about the various inadequacies of our age and our country (we love you England, but really…). Doesn’t even have a temporary name yet, but then we have yet to discuss it and it’s going to be a joint-project in terms of planning/ideas/etc.

In other news, Forbidden Wings is coming along nicely – Ob and I are up to chapter thirty of forty-five. Also, Ob’s Christmas fic… is still not finished.

STFU! She hasn’t finished hers either *pout*

All in all, the year has started well. Got some time off next week, so expect a big leap in the word counts :D

So, Magic and Nighttime have been slaughtered for now. Magic has been on the fence for a while, I think it’s about time I put my foot down about it; I really wasn’t about to go back to it any time soon… Nighttime has just wavered and died through my general crap-ness in terms of planning beyond the first couple of chapters >_>

Did some work on a few different projects, mostly editing and little additions. Poked Branka and got past another of those little blocks I was having in the furthest chapters; I got some good feedback from Obble (though she’s only read a couple of chapters :O) and from Rose, which was positive, though I want to prod for more information at some point… I love Branka, but I’ve always been a bit unsure about it in terms of the MC.

I am an author in need of feeding   >:D

Went back to Soul as well, which was brilliant – I adore Soul to my toes and back. I’ve given Soul to people, though I’ve never really gotten much enthusiasm from anyone else, but I love it so much that I really want to shower it with attention regardless :D

Bits and pieces with Wings but nothing big. Been a bit bum with it really, but I’ve been concentrating on life and laziness and other projects so all is well really. I’ll live without for a while.

Spent a little time on one of my the four corners pieces tonight, I’m getting to really love these one-shots; I can get really lost in the world for them.

No go on Labyrinth fic *blush* I know, I’m shet XD

Plenty of FW with Obble – great love for Tobias x Draylin !!

*cough* But yeah, am getting close with the first of the four corners so am hoping to finish it some time this week and perhaps post it up here *gasp* for perusal by you fine people. Will be in first draft form so any feedback will be helpful.

Until next time, ja.

Well, as you can see Dawn did eventually die. The bits I liked from it I removed, edited and placed in various other projects. Magic I’m still on the fence about. My eighth part of the four corners is also sorted out and some of it is written.

Over this month I’ve worked back and forth on various projects, most notably on the four corners, Wings and Branka. Branka is once again up and rolling, though I’m still in the process of getting back into it properly and have no feedback from my two test-readers *blinks needily at Ob and Rose* You know I love you…

But yes, this month has been nice and varied, though constantly interrupted by one thing or another. Ob and I were both crap with our Christmas fic-present exchange (though me slightly less – 3000 to Ob’s 500 words, yeah!) so the deadline for the fics has been moved back to the end of January now.

This week is FW-week, in which Ob is spending a few days with me (yesterday till Thursday) and we’re sitting in our pajamas with our laptops writing FW and eating food that is bad for us :D

‘Tis brilliant.

After Ob leaves on Thursday I will be spending time with my old idea, the Labyrinth fic and various other projects. I want to finish one of the four corners ficlets ideally. Or write loads of Wings since I haven’t gotten more to my test-readers for a while, my concentration being so divided.

Ah, so much to do, so little time…
